Happy Monday, Friends! “Picture of the Week”
Before I explain the rabbits on alert, I want to share a “Personal Best” that I achieved yesterday.
Those of you who have followed me know I try to walk every morning, weather permitting. And as I have previously mentioned, two years ago, I started a walking routine. At first, it was less than half a mile, and I thought I was going to die!
I‘ve built up to a four-mile walk per day. In the last few weeks, I pushed to a five-mile and a six-mile walk. Now that it's summer, and even though I leave around 6 am, the heat, especially when the sun is out, drains you.
Yesterday, it was cloudy, and I decided to see if I could get to seven miles. I came to a crossroads. I knew one would get me to my seven-mile goal, and the one on the right would be about eight miles.
I took the path on the right: 8.2 miles, 15,887 steps in 2 hours and 40 minutes. It’s a record I plan not to try to break in a while. Maybe in the winter when it's cooler!!
Now, back to the rabbits, the old saying, the early bird catches the worm is not quite true. It is true that they eat worms, but my observation from early morning walks is that the rabbits are out in force before the birds are up, and the squirrels are still sleeping.
Now, when I come close to the rabbits as I walk, they run away. This time, they seemed to be on alert to something in the dense trees and undergrowth. What made me nervous is that we were next to a body of water, I’m sure, with alligators, and the rabbits didn’t seem to know or care that I was there.
Normally, they would have scattered, but this time they didn't. I walked within a few feet of them and they didn’t move, but I did. I didn’t want to stick around to see what could have come out of the brush.
A valuable lesson from the rabbits: stay alert!
I hope everyone has a great week! Peace and Blessings to you all!
